El Kourous de Anavyssos era la escultura funeraria del joven Kroisos. Con este tipo de escultura la estatutaria griega comienza a diferenciarse de la egipcia e intenta dotar a las esculturas de unos modelos estéticos propios (naturalidad y realismo). Fue hallado en el cementerio de Anavyssos, en Ática (región situada al sur de Grecia).

The Anavysos kouros, named after the village in Attica where he was found and dating to about 530 B.C.E., shows advances towards more naturalistic proportions and more supple contours. The sculptor has penetrated the block to a greater depth, and thus achieved greater three-dimensionality.

Marble statue of a kouros (youth) Greek, Attic. ca. 590-580 BCE. On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 154. This is one of the earliest marble statues of a human figure carved in Attica. The rigid stance, with the left leg forward and arms at the side, was derived from Egyptian art. The pose provided a clear, simple formula that was used.
